Ant-Man and the Wasp Review Essay
Ant-Man and the Wasp was released on July 6, 2018. It is the follow up to 2015’s Ant-Man, and it is the twentieth film in the MCU. The film is directed by Peyton Reed. It stars Paul Rudd as Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Van Dyne, alongside Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “T.I.” Harris,David Dastmalchian, Hannah John-Kamen, Abby Ryder Fortson, Randall Park, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is hands down one of the funniest and downright entertaining fimls in the entire MCU. It’s such a breath of fresh air. Nearly every single joke lands. It’s impossible to watch this film and not have a smile on your face. Paul Rudd is fantastic in every single scene. The chemistry between the actors is fantastic. Marvel did a fantastic job building on the first film to make something even better. This is one of the most enjoyable Marvel film to date.
The acting was great. Paul Rudd was great. I loved seeing him and Hank arguing. The chemistry was fantastic. The interactions between Lang and his daughter were great. Everybody did what was a needed of them.
The plot was simple, but effective. It revolved around Hope and Hank trying to get to the quantum realm to rescue Hope’s mother. Lang is under house arrest, because he helped Captain America in Civil War. He only has a few days to go. Hank and Hope are both in hiding.
The plot flows so smoothly. It follows Infinity War with the way it flows from event to event. It’s a linear story that offers both action and comedy.
The characters were also great. I liked ghost. Marvel has had a string of good villains. While ghost doesn’t live up to Killmonger or Thanos, she’s got enough back story and motivation to keep her interesting.
I love that fact that the story revolves heavily on the characters. Each of the characters have their own goals that eventually intertwines with the other characters.
The visuals and CGI was amazing. Especially in the quantum realm. It looked beautiful. For the most part the CGI was on par with the rest of the MCU.
The film had some great imaginative scenes. They took what was build off the first one, and ran with it.
This is a very compact film. It doesn’t have as high of stakes as other films in the MCU. It doesn’t have the level of emotion as Black Panther, but it doesn’t need it. This film manages to make an exciting action movie that has a heart.
This is one of the most enjoyable films in the MCU. Easily the funniest behind Thor Ragnarok. This film not only lives up to the the first, but exceeds it. The CGI is great, and there are some seriously beautiful shots. The action is great. New York isn’t getting destroyed, but we get to see Ant-Man as a giant again. Paul Rudd is just as enjoyable as ever. The entire is absolutely fantastic. Ant-Man and the Wasp is one of the most enjoyable Marvel films to date.
